Earlier this month at the UN Environment Assembly in Nairobi, negotiators successfully adopted 11 new resolutions, specifically including a landmark agreement on protecting coral reefs from the immediate impacts of climate change. This provides a legal and financial framework for nations to accelerate restoration and protection of "refugia"—reefs that naturally resist heat.

Emergence of SCTLD (Coral Disease)

For the first time, researchers in Gilimanuk Bay (West Bali) have documented the presence of Stony Coral Tissue Loss Disease (SCTLD). This is a highly contagious and lethal disease that can wipe out entire coral colonies in a matter of weeks.
